A Messanic Passover
April 18th, 2008 |
This vlog will be about the passover. a Messanic Passover seder. The Messanic passover seder considers Jesus as the passover lamb. This means that the Passover Lamb has already been slain, once and for all. Jesus is our passover lamb as He was crucified on Passover and his signs were that he would resurrect after three days and three nights, on the third day, after three days. The Messiah has been resurrected.
“As you know, the Passover is two days away–and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.” - Matthew 26:2.
“And He (Jesus) said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” -Luke 22:15
At the beginning of the seder, people gather this evening to observe and remember Passover, God’s deliverance of His people. God delivered Israel from the bondage of slavery and He commanded us to observe this holiday. We are not to celebrate in vain, but to give thanks to Him and to recognize an even greater Passover and deliverance. Through the death of the foretold Messiah-Yeshua, we too will be passed over from death and released from the bondage of sin.
Jesus made a command and told us to do the passover to remember Jesus. “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19)
We will now begin reading the Haggadah, which means “the telling”. I will do a VERY short form of it. I don’t have 2 hours! The seder plate has different foods on it. Here’s a picture of it. Parsley, salt water, lamb shank bone, charoset (a mixture of apple, spice, nuts, etc), Horseradish. (some have more on thier dishes but this is as far as I will go.)
There are also 4 cups of “wine” (juice) that represents different things. Jesus’ first miracle was turning water to wine. During the Passover Seder we will drink four glasses of wine: The Cup of Sanctification, the Cup of Plagues, The Cup of Redemption and the Cup of Praise. Santification means cleansing of yeast. Yeast is compared to sin. Plague is of the plagues the Egyptians experienced. It is compared to our trials and tribulations, God will take us out of it. Redemption symbolizes the blood of the lamb that saved the Israelites. Jesus is our redemption. We are saved by His blood. Praise is given to God for delivering the Israelites, and we give Jesus praise for salvation is given to us.
Parsley is dipped in salt water as a rememberance of the Israelite’s pain and tears. We will have painful circumstances in our lives, but we know God will always free us from our tribulations.
Matzo crackers (demostration). “Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast–as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. [8] Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.”-1 Corinthians 5:6-8
The stripes represents Jesus’s beating as its purpose is to HEAL us. The holes in the cracker represents the holes in Jesus’ body. It is broken into three pieces - God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.
The cracker that represents Jesus is hidden and the children have to find it. Some rabbis will try to negotiate with kids for a price as did Judas. Some Rabbi will pay a price for the cracker to show the price that Jesus paid for our sins.
I will tell the story of Passover. (VERY short version). Israelites moved to Egypt because there was a famine. Joseph was a Hebrew ruler of Egypt next to the Pharoah. Hundreds of years later, a new Pharoah didn’t know Joseph and feared that there was a LARGE number of Israelites in Egypt and that they may overtake Egypt so he made them all slaves. A baby named Moses was born and his mother gave him away because the king ordered that all males Hebrews are to be killed. The baby ended up in the Pharoah’s daughter’s hand and Moses grew up to be wise and smart. One day he ran away from Egypt and God appeared to him and said he must deliver the Israelites. Moses returned to Egypt and demanded that the Israelites be freed. Pharoah didn’t listen and as a result, Egypt faced many plagues. God said He would strike down every first born-humans and animals unless there was a lamb blood over the doorpost and threshold. God instructed that the Hebrews do this and to He will pass over.
Different plages came before the passover: Blood! Frogs! Gnats! Wild Beasts! Disease to Livestock! Boils! Hail! Locusts! Darkness! Death of the Firstborn. People dip their hands on the salt water and let a drop fall in the bowl. This is the time that Judas was identified as the betrayer. “And while they were eating, he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.” They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely not I, Lord? Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.” -Matthew 26:21-23
The shank bone reminds us of the lamb whose blood marked the doors of the Israelites. We know that Yeshua was our final blood atonement so that we would be freed from the bondage of sin and we would be passed over from death.
There is a cup of Elijah. People will open the door to let Elijah in. The door passover to Messianic redemption. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” -Revelations 3:20
There is a new covenant. God has made a new covernant with us all. We are all called to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and might, and to treat others with kindness. Seek a relationship with God, not a “religion”.

See you next year in Jerusalem!
